How to activate a license on a license server using the Harris License Administrator (HLA)

This Help Article provides steps in order to activate licenses on a flexnetls license server and how to connect client machines to the license server afterwards:

1) Activate license(s) on the license server

2) Connect client machine(s) to the license server

Note:
The license activation is an online process that requires an internet connection. If the license server machine has no internet access, we invite you to contact Technical Support.

The FlexNet License Server is provided as a separate product installer that is available from the Download and License Center (D&LC) product download list.

After the file(s) have downloaded successfully from the D&LC, follow the prompts to continue the installation. Once the installation is complete, the license activation can be started.

1) Activate license(s) on the license server
1.1) If only the FlexNet license server is installed on the machine, the license activation and management must be performed using the command prompt:
Windows: https://www.l3harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-windows-install.html#CommandLine
Linux: https://www.l3harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-linux-install.html#CommandLine

1.2) If you wish to activate server licenses using the Harris License Administrator (HLA), ENVI or IDL must also be installed on the license server machine.
Start the installed HLA tool and select "Activate Licenses on this Server".
Complete the outlined steps below to activate the licenses. You can enter multiple activation codes to activate different products at the same time.

If the default port 7070 needs to be changed to a different one, you can follow the steps in the following Help Article:
https://www.l3harrisgeospatial.com/Support/Self-Help-Tools/Help-Articles/Help-Articles-Detail/ArtMID/10220/ArticleID/15103/How-to-change-the-Harris-FlexNet-License-Server-Service-default-TCPIP-communication-port-number-7070-to-a-custom-value

If the activation fails, an error will appear under "View Log". If you have any questions or need assistance, contact Technical Support and send us the full output of "View Log".

2) Connect client machine(s) to the license server
To connect a client machine to an existing license server, start the Harris License Administrator (HLA).
Click on the "Use License Server" option and enter the server name or IP Address and Port Number (7070 by default) and select ‘Connect’.

Note that this is also necessary if the license server is installed on the same machine and you want to use or view your active licenses via “View Licenses”.
