  1. What is the Harris License Administrator Tool (HLA)?

The Harris License Administrator (HLA) tool is a GUI which allows ENVI and IDL users to manage their licenses. It was introduced in versions IDL 8.6 and ENVI 5.4. It is installed automatically when installing ENVI or IDL

Note: The HLA GUI is NOT available when only installing the license server utility

  1. How to start the ENVI License Administrator Tool (HLA)?

Administrator/sudo/root privileges are mandatory to run the HLA.

  • Windows: From the Start menu, select Harris License Administrator under the shortcut group for your product installation of ENVI x.x or IDL x.x.
  • Linux: From a terminal window, launch the harrislicense command from the INSTALL_DIR/envixx/idlxx/bin directory.
  • Mac: From a Finder window, double-click the LicenseAdminstrator.app icon located under the INSTALL_DIR/envixx/idlxx directory.

  1. How to activate/deactivate a local license from the HLA?

An internet connection is required to activate/deactivate a local license from HLA.

  1. How to activate/deactivate a server license from the HLA?

An internet connection is required to activate/deactivate a server license from the HLA.

Note: The activation/deactivation needs to be completed from the license server machine itself, and cannot be completed from a client machine of the license server

See  the links below for instructions to Activate/Deactivate a server license using the HLA

Linux : https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-linux-install.html

Windows : https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-windows-install.html

By default, the HLA is not available with the license server utility. If you wish to use it to activate/deactivate the licenses on your license server, you will need to install ENVI on IDL on the license server machine, in addition to the license server utility. If ENVI or IDL are not installed on the license server, activation/deactivation will need to be completed in command line mode.

See the links below for instructions to activate/deactivate a server license in command line

Linux : https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-linux-install.html

Windows : https://www.harrisgeospatial.com/docs/flexnetserver-windows-install.html

  • To deactivate the license from the original server using the option Deactivate License on this Server (See  the link below for instructions)
