Highway Collapse: Monitoring Subsidence Using ENVI SARscape

On July 12, 2019, a large crack began to spread across the east-bound lanes of U.S. Highway 36 between Denver and Boulder, Colorado. The highway ultimately collapsed, causing major traffic delays and tens of millions of dollars spent to fix the problem. Using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data and ENVI SARscape an analysis was performed to monitor subsidence that caused the structural damage and determine if the collapse could have been predicted and potentially mitigated long before it happened.

Watch this video to see a demonstration of how ENVI SARscape can be used to track horizontal and vertical movements like those that occurred in Colorado.
