Digital Vector Maps

Digital Vector Maps

Vector line features are very important to give imagery and other basemaps valuable attributes and reference. Adding labels, roads, watercourses, municipal and political boundaries and other features to base imagery can help better illustrate the location and impact of a project. Garmin continuously updates their worldwide vector data layers and updates are made available free of charge with annual or multiyear subscriptions to these data layers. Typical customers are large organizations that require an accurate and authoritative basemap upon which they can superimpose their critical business data. Examples of these types of organizations include defense & intelligence, mining, oil & gas exploration, and general GIS applications.

Line data: Populated places, geographic names, infrastructure facilities, airports, points of interest, ports, spot heights, dams, stadiums, power plants, towers, ski areas, amusement parks, exits and zip code points
Point data: Hydropolys, urban areas, landmarks, airport footprints, mall and stadium footprints, boundary polygons, land-use land-cover, rail yards, major geo features
Polygon data: Hydropolys, urban areas, landmarks, airport footprints, mall and stadium footprints, boundary polygons, land-use land-cover, rail yards, major geo features

Contours

Contours

Contour lines on a vector map are representations of the terrain surface derived from the Digital Terrain Models (DTM).

  • Unmatched accuracy with intervals up to 1 foot.

Planimetric Data

Planimetric Data

Planimetric maps show the horizontal position of features like roads, sidewalks, curb lines, bridges, building footprints and other similar construction features. These layers are derived from the stereo pairs and triangulation used to generate an accurate DTM.

Available Planimetric features include:

  • Paved and Unpaved Surfaces
  • Airports (runways, taxiways, aprons, helipads)
  • Railroads
  • Manmade Structures
  • Water Features
  • Water Structures (bridges, dams, etc)
  • Barriers
  • Utilities
  • Disturbed areas (construction sites, mines, quarries, etc)
  • Landmark features
  • Street hardware (signs, billboards, bus stop shelters)
  • Vegetation (trees, orchards/nurseries, crops)
Vector Extractions

Feature Extraction

Vector data correlated to multi-resolution TrueTerrain products. Point, line, and polygon vectors with associated 46 total Vector Layers containing:

  • Hydrography
  • Industry
  • Population
  • Utility
  • High volume scalability

Vector extractions based on VMAP1-2 schema.

Building Footprints

Building Footprints

Building Footprints are extracted from aerial imagery and accurately represent the structure’s outline at ground-level.

  • 2D building footprints correlated to multi-resolution TrueTerrain products
  • 2D building footprints are available with optional Z-value as Building Height & Elevation Height (MSL) attributes

3D Building Models

3D buildings are extracted from stereo and pseudo stereo data and can range in detail from simple to complex geometries depending on image resolution and customer need.

  • Geospecific textures derived from the imagery can be applied to the buildings where available.
  • Building heights are derived photogrammetrically, resulting in accurate and realistic representations of the structure.
  • Multiple supported industry standard formats available, including OpenFLT, AutoCAD DXF, OBJ, and more

Aerodrome Mapping Database [AMDB]

Correlated Datasets

L3Harris’ Aerodrome Mapping Databases (AMDB) are accurate and high-quality GIS datasets that can be used to efficiently supplement surface navigation in a wide variety of airport-related activities. AMDBs are compliant with multiple industry standards and are comprised of correlated TrueTerrain imagery, DTM elevation, and vectors that describe the spatial layout of an aerodrome.

  • Real world consistency allows users to familiarize themselves with the aerodrome
  • Can be used in ground-based operations management and on-board aircraft systems
  • Enhances safety and situational awareness

Detailed Vector Layers

AMDB Layers

Detailed Vector Layers

  • AMDB Layers are derived from satellite imagery which has been georeferenced using survey ground control points. Key airport features are digitized from the georeferenced imagery, resulting in location-specific point, line, and polygon vector feature classes.
  • AMDB layers are organized into 5 categories related to their function within the aerodrome: Runways, Taxiways, Aprons, Vertical Structures, and Other Data.
  • Detailed attributes are added to the vector objects using image interpretation, publicly available airport diagrams, and customer provided data. This attribution provides additional information beyond the spatial location, allowing the user to have access to specific details relating to characteristics and function of the aerodrome features.

Supported Standards & Formats

  • Compliant with ICAO industry standards such as RTCA DO-272 / ED-99
  • Products are updated to current specifications and versions as they become available
  • AMDB Vector layers are provided in shapefile format.
  • Supported layers also available in AIXM and AMXM schemas.
